How does IPL Photofacial work?
The IPL device delivers high intensity light pulses to the deep layer of tissue known as the dermis, while leaving the superficial layer of skin (epidermis) untouched.

What is the advantage of IPL Photofacial?
Since IPL leaves the surface of the skin undamaged, there really is no recovery time necessary with this procedure. Treatments take only 30-45 minutes and patients can leave the office and return to work the same day. Some people experience a slight redness (like a sunburn) which can be covered by makeup. There is also very little, if any, pain associated with this procedure; therefore, no topical anesthetic is necessary. Also, large areas of skin can be treated at one time with this procedure.

What are the disadvantages of IPL Photofacial?
Because there is very little effect to the surface layers of skin, several treatment may be necessary to achieve the desired effect. Generally, approximately 1-3 treatments are necessary, spaced 4 weeks apart. Side effects may include redness and increase/decreased pigment in the treated area. IPL also cannot be used on tan or sun exposed skin. Use of daily sunscreen and avoidance of all sun exposure or tanning, four weeks prior to the procedure, is essential to safe treatment.

How much does IPL Photofacial cost?
Prices will vary according to the treatment area. Generally, the average cost for FotoFacial IPL is between $150-$600 per treatment, depending on the area treated.
