Sculptra

About Sculptra®….. a sculpting agent that restores volume to correct the signs of facial fat loss.

Sculptra® cosmetic filler reduces wrinkles, lines and furrows around your mouth, eyes, cheeks, lips and neck with a safe biocompatible fat volume substitute. Sculptra can produce semi permanent results with a fuller fresher more youthful appearance.

Sculptra is also an enduring treatment approved by the FDA for the restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, in people with human immunodeficiency virus. It is the first FDA-approved product of its kind for this condition.

Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Sculptra is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. No skin testing is required.

Here is what you’ll experience as you reduce wrinkles using the Sculptra cosmetic filler. A treatment area such as around your mouth or cheeks (Sculptra is not injected in the lips or forehead), receives a pattern of carefully spaced volume-controlled injections of Sculptra beneath your skin. Next, is your body ‘naturally’ transports collagen and fibroblast material to the treatment site? Result? After about two weeks a structure forms….your skin thickens naturally….your appearance slowly reverts to an earlier more youthful fresher and fuller appearance as wrinkles subside and cheeks take-on new definition.

Biologically inert, Sculptra poses no health risk based on immune system ‘tissue rejection’. Technically, Sculptra is a synthetic formulation derived from naturally occurring lactic acid in your muscles. The same compound has had years of successful medical applications as dissolvable stitches as well as soft tissue implants.

The most common side effects seen with the use of Sculptra is some pain and bruising. Bruising can last for 7 to 10 days. Sculptra has been safely used outside the United States since 1999 in over 150,000 patients.

Most patients get two years or more of positive results with Sculptra rather than the typical 3 to 6 month result with collagen or fat cosmetic fillers.
