LASER SPIDER VEIN REMOVAL
Spider veins ~ those large clusters of enlarged veins that appear most often on legs and sometimes on the face ~ can now be effectively treated with laser therapy and the Physician Body Solutions offers the newly enhanced technology and quality client care to ensure optimum results.
As with all PBS services, the treatment process begins with a personal consultation. The PBS physicians will discuss preparation, expectations, possible side effects and post-treatment care. They will create a recommended treatment schedule, outlining the number of sessions needed as it depends on one’s skin condition and severity of the area to be treated.
Clients no longer need to self-conscious about spider veins. Whether the procedure takes a few minutes up to an hour, patients will be comfortable in our inviting and private atmosphere.
SPIDER VEINS
Spider veins are usually purple, red, or blue in color and are generally not painful. They are, however, rather unattractive in appearance to the nearly 50% of adult females and smaller percentage of men in the United States. These veins are different from varicose veins in that they are smaller and much less painful.
TREATMENT PREPARATION
Prior to treatment, the patient’s skin should be thoroughly clean and dry. One should be sure to remove any make-up, creams, oils, topical anesthetic or self-tanning products. In addition, the treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for at least 2 weeks prior to the procedure.
For patients who have had a history of herpes simplex virus and are interested in facial vein removal, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
POST-TREATMENT
Immediately following treatment, clients may apply a cool compress or gel pack to relieve any discomfort. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours.
For the days following the laser procedure, patients should not scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. In addition, exposure to sun should be prevented by applying SPF 30 + sunblock.
A PBS physician or a Physician Body Solutions technician may advise of other precautions for certain individuals as needed.
SIDE EFFECTS
Although minimal and only lasting a few days, clients may experience some side effects from the laser treatment for spider veins. Specifically, such side effects may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, blistering and laser bruising in the treated area.
For questions regarding short term or any rare permanent side effects, our physicians are available to discuss patient concerns.
FAQ’s
How does the laser treatment work?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deeply into the skin-tissue, where it delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat to the targeted blood vessels. Candela's patented Dynamic Cooling DeviceTM technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long pulse laser and Dynamic Cooling Device offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.
What can I expect during the treatment?
Treatment will take place in the Physician Body Solutions. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your practitioner will guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small headpiece. Each laser pulse may be preceded and followed by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment could take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area being treated.
Does it hurt?
Patient's describe a discomfort similar to the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves in several seconds and is minimized by Candela's Dynamic Cooling Device. Some patients prefer to use a topical anesthetic cream prior to treatment. If you are concerned with pain tolerance, please ask the Physician Body Solutions staff about anesthetic options prior to your arrival to your appointment.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. Multiple treatments may be required, but many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.
How can I prepare for the treatment?
Your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics, or self-tanning products before laser treatment. If you have had a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for facial vein treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for two weeks prior to treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?
A cool compress, cool air or a gel pack may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours.
What precautions should I take after the treatment?
After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock SPF 30 or above. In the first few days after treatment, don't scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers.
Are there side effects?
Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, blistering or bruising. These side effects usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects are rare.
